Reviewing Your Progress
Once a unit has been planned, the evidence has been gathered and assessed, the assessor should be meeting with the candidate to review progress. The date/time and place of this meeting having already been agreed.
The assessor should lead the review progress, but involve the candidate throughout. For example, asking how the candidate felt the observation had gone will be a good way to find out how the candidate is feeling. This information enables the assessor to tailor the feedback approach.
The assessor needs to talk the candidate through what has been achieved, and this must be recorded on the element evidence location sheets. On completion of these, any gaps can be identified.
Together the assessor and candidate then need to work out the best way to cover the gaps (missing performance criteria or knowledge). Once this has been agreed, the way forward will need to be written up on the “plan” which is then signed and dated. The process of evidence collection, assessment and review begins again until all units are completed.
